“Flint Knife” by Ingrid Calderon

he likes his steak medium rare
mostly rare
like his princess
eagle spread
four days a month
sometimes more
or less
depending on the stress
level hormone
moaning guttural caves of clan
alpha girl
with a sissy groan
clapping hands like children do
when summer comes and school is out
short shorts
not me, no
just inside book yields
till the pain withers
into paragraphs
midnight eyes full
of words and Chichen Itza
on my calendar
for one day
I’ll step by step my way up
to angel grade
till I can fly instead of step by step up
eagle spread
not days but years till prison skies
swallow my bones
and leave me out
to rot alone
