Soundtrack of Your Life Group Show
Featuring paintings and other works by a diverse mix of artists, “Soundtrack of Your Life” will explore the ways in which we remember the turning points of our lives, particularly as they relate to our favorite movies and even their soundtracks.
“The exhibition is about the cinematic patina of our memories,” said Sam Saghatelian, curator of “Soundtrack of Your Life” and a participating artist.
“The show also sheds light on the interrelationship between our most significant experiences and the films we might associate them with,” Saghatelian continued. “In this sense, experiential images and sounds ingrained in our imaginations are complemented and amplified by certain motion pictures, including their music, therefore deepening the vividness of memory and helping shape our personal and cultural identities.”
In keeping with the cinematic theme of “Soundtrack of Your Life,” the exhibition will be held among an installation of moviemaking paraphernalia and artifacts such as vintage film reels and canisters. The installation will be designed by Harry Momdjian and Saghatelian. “Throughout the exhibition, the gallery will be reminiscent of a cutting room,” Saghatelian said.
Artists participating in the exhibition include Paul Chatem, Renee Lawter, Brooks Salzwedel, Greg Noppe, Saratoga Sake, Anthony Ausgang, Jane Gotts, Jason Hernandez, Ken Garduno, Aaron White, Ben Kehoe, Tom Haubrick.

“Everything But the Kitschen Sync”
La Luz De Jesus Gallery proudly presents its 13th annual juried group show, “Everything But the Kitschen Sync”. This grandiose exhibition features work from what the gallery feels are some of the today’s most relevant artists. Commercial illustrators, tattooists, scenic painters, students, and animators have been invited to submit work of a more personal nature. The show includes artists previously exhibited at La Luz de Jesus and also features a large selection of work from a brand new batch of undiscovered talent culled from months of submissions to the gallery. “Everything But The Kitschen Sync” is a wonderful forum for the gallery and its fans to check out new and upcoming art trends and get the first glimpse of tomorrow’s stars. NIGHT LIGHTS
EXHIBITON FEATURING HELEN K. GARBER, GINNY MANGRUM, AND BILL SOSIN
DNJ Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, Night Lights, featuring photographic works by Helen K. Garber, Ginny Mangrum, and Bill Sosin. This exhibition brings together three artists who produce their art in the city streets– under the cover of darkness. Their works capture beautiful nightscapes, alternating between eerie landscapes, and magical color-filled abstract compositions of light and dark. Photographing at night poses special challenges, and these three contemporary photographers respond in a fascinating way.
Helen K. Garber is known for her night urban landscapes taken in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Venice, Italy. For “Night Lights,” Garber will exhibit new work from her “Venice/ Venezia” series of diptychs that juxtapose images of Venice, Italy and Venice Beach, CA. Her portrayal of the darkened cities creates a descriptive, yet poetic model of the human environment. Using painterly techniques, she presents her photographs on canvas, to show the sparkle and texture of the tones. Garber’s images are exhibited internationally and are in permanent collections of museums, private and corporate collections nationwide.
In her second exhibit at DNJ Gallery, Ginny Mangrum will exhibit new work from her ongoing series, “Night Moves.” In these photographs, Mangrum emphasizes the intensity of darkness as one travels throughout the night. All the places she photographs are actively used during the day, but at night, become as still as the image itself. She explores interior and exterior spaces, presence and absence of the human subject, and the tension that is created by her voyeuristic observation. Mangrum received her MFA from Mills College in Oakland, CA and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA. She has exhibited her photography throughout California since 2003.
Bill Sosin’s contribution to “Night Lights” consists of richly colored photographs capturing urban landscapes in the rain. Sosin’s “City Rain” photographs describe the texture, shape, weight, and direction of raindrops at night as well as the twinkling luminescence of the streetlights, fluorescent lights, and storefronts behind the rain. Sosin’s images are a collection of transient moments that are captured in passing. His work has been exhibited widely throughout the Unites States and he has won many awards for his work, including the International Lucie Award ‘Official Selection’ in 2009 and the International Color Award from the Photography Masters Cup, among others.

Matthew Flaming discusses and signs The Kingdom of Ohio
It’s a story about conspiracies and struggles to reshape the world; about secret wars between men like J. P. Morgan, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla. It is about one of the strangest and least-known mysteries of American history: the existence and disappearance of the Lost Kingdom of Ohio. It is about science and faith, and the distance between the two.
Most of all, it’s a story about a man and a woman, and about love.

Offramp Gallery is pleased to present Still Perplexed, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Myron Kaufman, from February 21 – March 21, 2010.
Witty narrative, a preternaturally bright palette and an intuitive sense of composition are the hallmarks of Myron’s work. Nothing is sacred as he tackles subjects as far ranging as Wall Street, religion, Dick Cheney, Little Orphan Annie, aging, nudity, and sexuality. Drawn initially to the bright colors and free-flowing creativity of these paintings, one’s attention is ultimately held by the narrative. Simultaneously evoking humor, emotional discomfort, and a desire to know more, one feels privileged to peek into the wonderfully strange psyche of Myron Kaufman.
A full color catalog accompanies the exhibition.

Elaine Carhartt: Ceramic Sculpture

Yuri Elvin Paintings
Born to artists Ana Victorson and Steve Elvin, Yuri has always painted. He quit all art to pursue his academics and a career in film and television. Receiving an mfa and working for 10 years in the film industry, he picked-up where he left off 15 years earlier, again as a creator. Since then he has received international acclaim, illustrated for books and magazines, provided art for film and television on such shows as EASTWICK, 1000 WAYS TO DIE, and the FOOD NETWORK. He also has many accomplished collectors ranging from studio executives to writers to lawyers and leaders of environmental activism.
This show brings together the best of two years of work. With no formal art education, discovering acrylic paint without guidance has brought out some very inspiring techniques and personal revelations. His long time love of drawing has kept his pencil close, and his materials few.
The art work spans several genres: beginning with patterns and abstract spiritual insights, to sci-fi fantasy. Being inspired by the discovery of his own stylized self-developing characters, cultures, customs, and politics, has given way to the creation of its own ‘world’. Illustration-assignments, commissions, and aimless research often force the learning of new subject matter and inspires the expansion of the ‘world’ that his characters live.

Time: 10PM-2AM
Location: The Standard Hotel, 8300 Sunset Boulevard
Party it up with Forth magazine and our latest issue’s featured artist Ellei Johndro of Shadowscene this Monday June 29th!!

“Yes, I’m here for Ellei Johndro’s gallery? Fragments & Figmentations?” Ah, yes. The photographer known in some circles as Shadowscene. Ellei: the young, underground Annie Leibovitz. I’ve volunteered to immerse myself in her world, to do jumping-jacks on her brain. Not just because she is talented and plugged into the throbbing pulse of LA’s neon nightlife, but because we are at the razor’s edge of the second decade of this new, tormented century – and if anyone in this town can put my generation in perspective, it may be Ellei. Tracking her down and viewing this corner of the world through her lens will surely yield some answers… But where the hell is she?
