La Luz Gallery Presents: Mitch O’Connell & John Puglisi, Event Blog by Nancy Accomando
by Nancy Accomando
It was yet another successful night at the monthly First Friday Art Opening on Oct. 2 at the La Luz De Jesus Gallery, tucked in the back of one of my favorite historic shops, “Wacko” at 4633 Hollywood Blvd. The two artists in the spotlight that evening were Mitch O’Connell and John Puglisi. The unique style and complete contrast of work of these two individuals side by side made for an interesting stew of onlookers and showcase.
I first met Mitch O’Connell at this year’s San Diego Comic Con Convention where he had a booth set up with books and posters of his spectacular illustrations. I was delighted to hear he was coming out from Chicago again for this show! He definitely wins the award in my book, which he signed ever so graciously, for the best autographer! Artist’s that take a few minutes out to talk to you, and draw in your notebook, are #1. I was also very delighted to speak with his girlfriend who talked to me about the image she was in, which was part of the show that evening. Let me not forget to mention she also had some awesome illustrations of poodles tattooed on her legs that Mitch O’Connell had originally created! Make sure you check out my slideshow for those pics! I look forward to many upcoming shows at the La Luz De Jesus Gallery…Whether there’s a show running or not, this gallery has an AMAZING eclectic collection for viewing on a regular basis. So stop by and take a peak, and tell them I said hi!
