Val Patterson, “The Mona Lisa Project” & “Sleepwalking in Palos Verdes”

Submitted by sophie on Thursday, Oct 29th 2009No Comment

Val Patterson is a Photographer born, raised & currently residing in Los Angeles. She is best known for her charity photo book “The Pink Project,” which benefits the fight against breast cancer & sexual assault. Val is currently working on her next two books, “The Mona Lisa Project” & “Sleepwalking in Palos Verdes,” which are scheduled for release in the Fall of 2010.

“I am drawn to the dreamy, romantic, & fairytale-esque visuals around me. Sometimes I think I may have been Marie Antoinette in a past life. When I am shooting I like to imagine what life was like being her & I try to capture that visual decadence in my work, while intertwining it with urban, modern day realities. I find it very healing & uplifting to capture the aesthetic beauty of everyday life.”

The Pink Project, Val’s first book, is a celebration of the survivor. It is a collection of photographs documenting the color pink as a unifying symbol that resonates within all of us. Pink represents courage, innocence, delicacy, femininity, individuality, diversity, and most importantly, the ability to heal. The Pink Project is a way of showing passion and support for two incredible non-profit organizations: The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), and The Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance (LABCA).

The Pink Project is a book created for and dedicated to the survivors: the survivors of sexual violence and the survivors of breast cancer. It is also for those who are no longer with us, and their loving families and friends. This is a gift to honor them. They are the heart behind every page. For each book sold, The Pink Project will donate 80% of the purchase price equally to two causes: 40% to RAINN and 40% to the Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance. Remaining proceeds cover publication, distribution, shipping, etc.
